Free siding calculator for walls and gables. Subtract openings, add waste, and estimate vinyl packages, lap boards, panels, housewrap, and cost.
Calculator inputs
Enter measured project values. Results update only when you choose Calculate.
Method
A siding takeoff begins with gross elevation area: rectangular wall surfaces plus one-half of base times height for each gable. Subtract the measured openings, add the selected waste allowance, and only then convert the order area into pieces or packages using the installed coverage supplied for the actual product.
Nominal board or panel dimensions are not always installed coverage. Lap siding loses width to exposure, panels may interlock, and carton coverage varies by profile. Enter the manufacturer or supplier coverage and exposure values for the quoted product, and take off corners, starter, trim, flashing, and accessories as separate lines.
Calculate each rectangular wall as length times height. For each triangular gable, multiply its base by the vertical gable height and divide by two; do not price the full enclosing rectangle.
Total the doors, windows, and other areas that will not receive siding, then subtract them from gross wall and gable area. Keep the perimeter trim, flashing, and accessory takeoff separate because removing opening area does not remove those materials.
Apply an allowance for end cuts, corners, rakes, pattern alignment, damaged pieces, and layout complexity. Select the percentage from the elevation geometry, product, and completed-job experience rather than relying on one waste rate for every siding system.
Enter the installed exposure or package coverage listed for the selected profile. Calculate pieces or packages from that coverage, round up to whole purchasable units, and keep products with different profiles, colors, or coverage on separate order lines.
Add length times height for every rectangular wall and base times height divided by two for every triangular gable. Subtract measured door and window areas, then multiply the net area by one plus the selected waste percentage to get order area.
Measure the gable base and the vertical height from the eave line to the peak. Multiply those dimensions and divide by two. Add that triangular area to the rectangular wall below it, then apply openings and waste as appropriate.
Subtract their measured area when calculating net siding coverage, but do not erase the work around them. Openings still require cuts, flashing, and product-specific trim, so carry those accessories separately and choose waste based on the actual elevation complexity.
Use the installed coverage for the exact product. For lap pieces, multiply face length by entered exposure to get coverage per piece; for cartons or bundles, divide order area by the user-entered package coverage. Round up to whole purchasable units and verify the coverage on the supplier quote or product information.
Separate plan workflow
This calculator solves one bounded formula from the inputs shown. BuildVision AI supports reviewed plan takeoff, complete-document CSV, and editable quote lines; the estimator owns pricing and final bid approval.
